A standard 2.5–3 mm lining on a mild-steel tank with general-purpose resin sits at the lower end (₹45–₹70/sq ft), while acid-proof vinyl ester linings for aggressive chemical service run ₹90–₹150/sq ft. The exact rate depends on six things: the resin grade, laminate thickness, surface condition, whether the base is MS or RCC, job size, and site location.
We have been lining tanks, ETP pits, floors and ducts across the Kota–Bundi–Rawatbhata industrial belt for more than 25 years. Every week, a plant or maintenance engineer calls us with the same first question: 'FRP lining ka rate kya hai?' And every week we give the same honest answer — it depends, but it depends on exactly six things, and once you know them you can read any quotation like an X-ray.
This guide puts our internal costing logic on the table: current 2026 rates, what actually drives the price up or down, a worked example you can copy for your own tank, and the red flags in suspiciously cheap quotes that we get called in to fix two years later.
These are realistic installed rates (material + labour + consumables) for industrial jobs in Rajasthan. GST at 18% is extra unless stated.

Two honest notes on this table. First, if a quote lands far below these bands, the saving is coming out of the laminate — thinner mat, cheaper resin, or skipped surface prep. There is nowhere else for it to come from. Second, rates in Jaipur, Udaipur and remote project sites shift with travel, scaffolding and material logistics; the bands above hold for most organised industrial areas in the state.

The chemical only ever touches the resin-rich corrosion barrier, so the resin has to match the chemical. This is where 25 years of jobs has taught us the expensive way that a catalogue never tells the whole story:

Put GP resin in front of hot bleach or wet chlorine and it will blister — we have cut out enough failed linings done by others to say that with certainty. If a vendor quotes vinyl ester rates but their quotation doesn't name the resin brand and grade in writing, assume you're getting GP. Always ask for the resin to be named on the quote.
'3 mm FRP lining' is shorthand for a laminate schedule — typically one surfacing veil (30–50 GSM tissue) plus three layers of 450 GSM chopped-strand mat, consolidated with resin. Recognised practice (the design logic of BS 4994 and ASTM D3299) puts a proper corrosion barrier at 2.5–6.3 mm depending on service severity. Each additional mat layer adds roughly ₹12–₹20/sq ft in material and labour. Aggressive service needs more barrier; clean water doesn't. Paying for 4.5 mm on a fire-water tank is waste; accepting 1.5 mm on an acid pit is a scheduled failure.
This is the item cheap quotes silently delete. On old MS tanks we grind to bare metal, kill active rust, and fill pitting before the first drop of resin — on badly pitted tanks, prep alone can be 20–30% of the job. On RCC, the concrete must be dry, laitance removed, and cracks routed and filled; lining over damp or dusty concrete is how you get delamination in the first summer. If a quotation doesn't have a surface-preparation line item, the vendor is either absorbing it (rare) or not doing it (usual).
RCC generally costs ₹10–₹25/sq ft more than MS for the same duty, because concrete drinks primer, needs putty coats to fill undulation, and outgases if not sealed correctly. ETP and STP civil tanks also usually mean confined-space work, dewatering and staging — all of which appear in an honest quote.
Mobilising a crew, consumables and scaffolding costs nearly the same for 200 sq ft as for 800 sq ft, so small jobs carry a higher per-foot rate — expect a minimum-job value of roughly ₹15,000–₹25,000 for one-off small tanks. Tight nozzles, internal baffles, and roof underside work slow lay-up and add cost; big open wall areas bring the rate down.

For Jaipur, Bhilwara, Udaipur or project sites, add realistic travel and stay costs to any vendor's rate; a vendor who doesn't is planning to recover it somewhere less visible.
Take the most common enquiry we get — an open-top mild-steel tank, 10 ft diameter × 10 ft high, storing dilute acidic effluent, moderate pitting inside.
Step 1 — Area. Shell: 3.14 × 10 × 10 = 314 sq ft. Bottom: 3.14 × 5² = 78.5 sq ft. Total ≈ 395 sq ft, round to 400.
Step 2 — Specification. Dilute acid duty → isophthalic resin, veil + 3 × 450 GSM CSM (~3 mm). Rate band: ₹60–₹90/sq ft. With moderate pitting prep, a fair mid-band figure is ₹75/sq ft.
Step 3 — Cost. 400 sq ft × ₹75 = ₹30,000 + 18% GST ≈ ₹35,400, inclusive of surface preparation, materials and labour. Add nothing if local; add travel/stay if outstation.
Step 4 — Sanity check the alternative. A new PP-FRP tank of similar capacity would cost several times that, plus 2–3 weeks lead time and crane hire. This 3:1 to 5:1 gap between relining and replacement is why plants reline first and replace only when the shell itself is structurally gone.
In April 2026, we completed the FRP relining of a 15 KL mild steel chemical storage tank at a chemical manufacturing unit near Gadepan, Kota. The project covered approximately 420 sq ft using an isophthalic polyester resin system with a 3 mm laminate, completed during a planned 2-day shutdown. A properly built vinyl ester corrosion barrier is generally expected to give 15–20 years of service, and a tank can be re-lined again after that — which is why 50-year-old lined tanks are still working in Indian plants. The cheapest option per square foot is almost never the cheapest per year.

The gap between a ₹45 quote and a ₹70 quote for the same tank is rarely margin — it's mat layers, resin grade and prep hours. Ask every bidder the same five questions: Which resin, named in writing? How many layers of what GSM? What surface prep, specifically? What cure time before service? What's the warranty and what voids it? The cheap quotes fall apart by question two.
